“Chasing the Angels’ Share!”
Scotland has over 100 working malt whisky distilleries from Bladnoch near Wigtown in the south to the Highland Park Distillery in Orkney in the north. Around 40 are open to visitors, with the greatest concentration being in the Speyside Region between Aberdeen and Inverness.
If island distilleries are preferred, there are eight on Islay alone!
Note: the angels' share is the portion of whisky which evaporates from the cask during the maturation process. This amounts to around two per cent per year. If therefore, the whisky in question is a 12 year old malt, very nearly a quarter of it has gone to the angels!
